Reset Root or Admin user password in OS X 10.6, 10.5 and 10.4. Enter a new administrator password, verify it, and fill in the Hint field so that you’ll get a memory trigger the next time you forget. Enter your Apple ID and its password, then click Reset Password to proceed. Go to the main hard drive and choose your user account. Click the arrow icon to open the Reset Password dialog. Type “resetpassword” (in one word) and click Return. Next, choose Disk Utility Continue Utilities Terminal. Wait for the loading bar to appear on the screen while your Mac boots to Recovery. Turn off your computer and hold the power button + Command R. Choose to reset your password using your Apple ID. A question mark will appear in the password field along with a popup box saying, “If you forgot your password, you can reset it using your Apple ID”. ![]()
